Slack MCP Connector

Connect Sazabi to Slack through MCP to browse messages and channel history.

The Slack MCP connector lets Chat browse messages, files, and threads in your Slack workspace. This is different from the Slack integration, which lets you interact with Sazabi from within Slack.

About the Slack MCP connector

The Slack MCP connector gives Chat read-only access to your Slack workspace. With this connector, Chat can:

  • Browse messages and threads in channels
  • Access channel history for context
  • Search files shared in Slack
  • View channel information

Prerequisites

Before connecting Slack via MCP, make sure you have:

  • A Sazabi account with admin permissions.
  • A Slack workspace where you have permission to authorize apps.

Connecting Slack

Open MCP Connectors

Go to Settings -> MCP Connectors in the Sazabi dashboard.

Select Slack

Find Slack in the list of available connectors and click Connect.

Authorize access

You will be redirected to Slack to authorize Sazabi. Review the requested permissions and click Allow.

Verify connection

After authorization, you will be returned to Sazabi. The Slack connector should show as connected with available tools listed.

Available tools

Once connected, the Slack MCP connector provides read-only tools to Chat:

ToolDescription
list_channelsList available channels
get_channel_historyRead recent messages from a channel
get_threadRead replies in a thread
search_filesSearch files shared in Slack

Usage examples

With the Slack MCP connector, you can ask Sazabi to:

Check what was discussed in #backend today
Find files shared in #engineering this week
Show me the thread about the deployment issue

Slack integration vs MCP connector

Sazabi offers two ways to work with Slack:

FeatureSlack IntegrationSlack MCP Connector
DirectionSlack to SazabiSazabi reads from Slack
Use caseAsk Sazabi questions from SlackBrowse Slack history for context
SetupInstall Sazabi app in SlackOAuth from Sazabi settings

Most teams benefit from having both: the integration lets you interact with Sazabi from Slack, and the connector lets Sazabi read channel history for additional context during investigations.

Troubleshooting

Connection failed

If the OAuth flow fails:

  1. Verify you have permission to authorize apps in your Slack workspace.
  2. Check that third-party app installation is not restricted by your Slack admin.
  3. Try disconnecting and reconnecting.

Tools not available

If Slack tools are not appearing:

  1. Go to Settings -> MCP Connectors and verify Slack shows as connected.
  2. Check that tools are listed under the Slack connection.
  3. Try disconnecting and reconnecting to refresh the tool list.
